School Lunch Program Closure Notice

It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the closure of our Good Earth School Lunch Program. Founded in 2003, the program served thousands of freshly prepared, nutritious meals to Marin children on a weekly basis. As part of the closure, Good Earth is regretfully no longer able to continue our work with the Congregate Hot Lunch Program for Seniors, serving 8 different locations in Marin.

COVID-19 has had an unprecedented impact on our community and our world. With local schools currently closed, and so much uncertainty going into the next school year, it has become clear that there is no way to sustainably carry on our School Lunch Program. Good Earth remains deeply committed to improving the health of our community through organic food and education, and we will continue to support and advocate for local schools and non-profits in their efforts to provide healthy school lunches to Marin County children and others in need.

We are incredibly saddened to announce this closure, and our primary concern in the coming weeks is taking care of School Lunch staff members through this transition. We have encouraged our School Lunch Program staff members to consider and apply for positions within our Good Earth grocery stores, and we've offered a severance package to those not interested. It is our hope to retain as much of that staff as possible.

We want to take this moment to thank our School Lunch staff members for their extraordinary contributions over the past several years. They have played an integral role in Good Earth’s mission, and we are truly grateful for the work they've done to nourish our community. Additionally, we’d like to share our gratitude for the many schools and community organizations who've supported our School Lunch Program. We look forward to finding new ways to serve and partner with you.
